"First of all you must realize that you are not you. Be sure of that, believe me. You are the horse, and if you wish to start working, the horse must be taught a language in which you can talk to it, tell it what you know and prove to it the necessity of, say, changing its disposition. If you can succeed in this, then with your help, the horse too will begin to learn."

About Equiyo

What is Equiyo?

Equiyo was born out and Equine Assisted coaching sessions with a client with Multiple Sclerosis.  She was so anxious to ride that when she mounted her horse would trot

around for several minutes before calming to a walk.  We used to joke that her horse was a living barometer and would always say what the client would about how she was feeling. What began as an experiment to find a way for the client to relax and feel her horse turned into an entire movement.  The results from pairing yoga vinyasas and riding were astounding.  With a few seconds horses would swing their legs freely and relax their back while at the same time their mounted counterpart did the same thing.

As an instructor it was amazing to watch how the relationship between to two changed and how a new state of attention was created.  It was obvious that I needed a yoga expert to help stay true to the Yogic form and philosphy.  Enter Jean Arnold.  After a few conversations and lessons we really wanted to share what we had learned and witnessed with others and it grew into Equiyo.  There are a couple of other books out there about mounted yoga but Equiyo is more about developing a sense of awareness and attention for the benefit and exploration of the relationship between human and horse.  Contact us today to schedule a workshop and create a whole new relationship with your horse.  Equiyo can be used both as a tool for training and also a tool for self growth and development.  It's not something that can be expressed in words but has to be experienced.

Other books have been written about mounted yoga and do a wonderful job explaining the mechanics.  We wrote  Equiyo as a photo exploration celebrating the union of horse, rider and the beauty of yoga.  It is not a how to book.  Yoga is something you just have to start doing and experience for yourself.  Seek guidance from other with knowledge to grow in your practice.
